  • Farm Diversification

    https://rmalberta.com/resolutions/8-23s-provincial-review-of-agribusiness-and-agritourism/

Brought forward a successful resolution to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta in 2023 advocating for a joint review that considers promotion, incentivization, regulatory alignments, potential transitional building codes or taxation options for producers looking to diversify their operations and supplement their income. Farmers who wish to grow or diversify their operations are subject to financial and regulatory requirements in the Alberta Building Code and Alberta Safety Code Act that can impact the viability of their diversification efforts. I have had multiple meetings with Ministers of Agriculture and Minister of Municipal Affairs, most recently in Spring of 2025 and will continue to push for a reduction in red tape to increase access to local products and support on-farm earnings.

  • Modernize Government

    Developed County Agriculture Master Plan.

    Developed Agri-business Agri-tourism policy.

  • Growth

In 2017, Sturgeon County’s consolidated budget was about $90 million.

By 2025, the consolidated budget (including both capital and operating) is over $148 million.

This represents an overall budget growth of at least 64% from 2017 to 2025.

INDUSTRIAL GROWTH: Many of our heavy industrial businesses are expanding their operations in Sturgeon County, like CANDO Rail doubling their terminal, Wolf Midstream expanding their Sturgeon facility and the pending final investment decisions (FIDs) from Pembina and Kineticor on their 1800MW Greenlight Electricity Center in Sturgeon County. These investments show confidence the county remains a very desirable and stable place to invest. Pending FID’s expected in early 2026 are expected to be the largest in our history.

RESIDENTIAL GROWTH: The Valley South will need to be developed by the county if current residents wish to influence the future. We have the opportunity to build a community that honours its rural heritage and stays connected to the goods produced in the nearby gardens, fields and ranches. Where calculating a density and designing a build form that makes schools, parks, trails and open spaces achievable.  The next council will have the opportunity to reconsider the densities set under prior circumstances. Leaving the land undeveloped will ensure the neighbouring cities annex and develop their vision. I believe county residents would prefer ours.

On September 9, 2025 I brought forward a motion directing administration to bring forward options and implications for amendments to the Sturgeon Valley Core ASP that would lower maximum new development density, in consideration of public input to date, servicing and market realities, fire risk, and other factors as appropriate; and consider alternative uses, such as small lot agricultural development or other complimentary uses. It passed unanimously.
